CASE STUDY ONE

A major Global organisation had a serious accident at one of its sites in the UK which subsequently involved enforcement action being taken by the relevant authorities. We were invited to assist the site in the relevant remedial work and subsequently worked closely with the HSE. Consequently HASMSL put together a prioritised Action Plan to address the relevant issues and other matters that we had identified needed attention. The site in question had in recent years a poor safety performance and when internally audited found themselves at the lower end of the organisations performance table.

Within eighteen months of contract commencement, HASMSL had assisted this site to such an extent it was then at the ‘upper end’ of the organisations performance table.

This generated a lot of interest at Director level within the business, whereupon we suggested that the organisations should have a Corporate Policy and Standards approach to managing health and safety within the business.

HASMSL suggestion was accepted by the Group Director responsible for Health and Safety and subsequently over the next eighteen months, worked with an organisational Steering Group and an associated Action Group to implement a Group Safety Management System (SMS). This was so successful that the SMS has ultimately been made available via the Groups Intranet, ensuring consistency of approach and ease of management.
